HELP US MAKE URGENT ART

‘IT’S A PRIVILEGE TO BE INVOLVED WITH A COMPANY THAT NOT ONLY WALKS THE TALK, BUT ALLOWS THE SPACE, TIME, HUMOUR AND GRACE FOR PARTICIPATION THAT IS FULL OF RISK, AMBITION AND A DEEP CARING’ – Amrita Hepi, Artist

Our mission is to create urgent art for urgent times: exploding what art can be and who it can be made with.

If you are in a position to donate, please consider giving to APHIDS here.

At APHIDS, we are dedicated to pushing boundaries, challenging norms, and redefining the possibilities of art. We take creative risks—questioning where art should be, what form it should take, and who it should be for. We make outspoken performances and unpredictable encounters in the public realm, as well as facilitating knowledge sharing through workshops and intergenerational dialogue. We invite all kinds of people from different walks of life to make art with us, and we want to continue doing this in a sustainable way.

APHIDS has presented more than 80 new projects, resulting in 165 presentations across Australia and the world. These outcomes are complex and ambitious – from taking a Tasmanian funeral director to talk about dying rituals on an international tour to India, Finland and Texas, to collaborating with Uber drivers and Mandarin translators to make a show about contemporary labour for RISING, to building a menu with live crickets and talking sustainability with local fishermen for a performative lecture in a regional seaside town.

In 2022 alone, 73% of our annual turnover was spent directly on artist wages and fees. We want to continue to platform diverse, experimental artists and to prioritise getting more cash into artists’ pockets. Your support and generosity will help us develop and present important new work that is proudly artist-led.

We’ve got urgent plans to make urgent art in 2023 and beyond. And we need your help.

2023 Keynote project: OH DEER!

OH DEER! is a spectacular performance connecting everyday adults who have lost a parent with fictional characters from popular culture. We are working with an extraordinary ensemble of people with this lived experience (many of whom have never performed before) and the work has been co-commissioned to be presented at Transform Festival in Leeds in October this year. This is a huge opportunity for us to present this work for LEEDS YEAR OF CULTURE. Every dollar contributes to making this happen.
