What makes a good
domain name?
After
you decide on the word, words or name which you like the most and
purchase your domain name, it will look something like "yourname.com.au".
All AU domain names are purchased for two years and renewed every
two years.
If you don't already have a website and web hosting,
you'll need
them too.
Before you purchase your domain name,
you should ask yourself the
following questions.
1-Is it easy to remember?
2-Is it relevant to your business or future website?
3-Will it be helpful in increasing website performance in search
engines?
4-Will others want the domain name in the future? and will it
increase in value?
What is the difference between .COM and
.NET?
COM stands
for commercial and was created for businesses in general. It is now
often used for both business and non-business purposes and has
become the most common domain. NET is related to the words
"networking" and "internet". Even though NET was designed for
businesses relating to the internet, it's now often used by internet
businesses, other commercial identities and non-businesses. It has
become the alternative to the popular COM.
What factors make a poor domain name?
1-numerals.
2-hyphen (-)
3-NET instead of COM.
4-Three word domain name. (eg. originalwebsitedesigns.com.au)
5-Mispelling (eg. websitez.com.au )
6-Incidental words such as "the" and "my". (eg. mywebsite.com.au)
If you don't need to incorporate the above aspects into your domain
name, then you shouldn't.
However, if all your preferred domain names have been taken, then
consider the above factors. If you do decide to use one of the above
listed factors, you should try limit their use to one.

The domain name license for .au domain names is for a fixed 2 year
period.
It is not
possible to license a domain name for a shorter or longer period.
Why do some websites register
domain names for free while others
offer to register them for over $100 each?
It's possible to register a domain name for free but
you'll probably pay for it in other ways. The most common method is
to purchase web hosting which includes a free domain name.
If you do this, make sure the domain name is registered in your name
AND the domain name will be renewed for free when you renew your web
hosting every year.
If a company registers your domain name in their name, they might
refuse to let you transfer it to another company which might force
you to pay their overpriced renewal fees.
If a company offers customer service which includes advice and
assistance with setting up a domain name, a normal price might be
between $50-$100. If you a getting a website built from scratch,
you'll probably be charged this amount because the company will do
everything for you.
If you pay less than $30 to register a domain name, expect to do
everything yourself online through an automated process.
At au-domainnames.com.au, you can register domain names for $12 a
year.
The process is automated and quite easy but if you have any trouble
setting it up,
please contact us by email, phone or support ticket.
