The driving force for a new method of blood testing stems from women early in pregnancy being required to give multiple testsof blood in order for doctors to conduct important tests of thebaby. Even the non-invasive prenatal testing (nipt test) required a significant amount of blood to be drawn. Doctors from around the world wanted to reduce the amount of tests that were needed and looked into approving the procedure to make it less demandingfor the mother.
