Abstract Submissions

Presentation Preparation Information

Oral and poster presentations are currently being scheduled. You will receive notification on the date, time and location that your presentation is allocated by July.
 

Please note, the does not require a full paper to be submitted.  Abstracts of registered presenters (oral and poster) will be included in the published Congress CD.



ORAL PRESENTATIONS

The duration of each oral presentation will be 15 minutes presentation including discussion and question time (excluding Keynote presenters who have 30 minute presentations).

Important: Your presentation number(s) and password (available in your Presetation Confirmation email) will be required to upload your presentation(s) and to access your presentation(s) at the Congress.
 
Presenters should upload their presentations through the website one week in advance of the Congress. 
 
 
PRESENTATION UPLOAD INSTRUCTIONS

Oral presentations must be prepared in 4:3 format on Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 or later.  Presentations in other formats will not be accepted. Files as .PPTX are preferred, any .PPT files received will be converted to .PPTX.  Users of PowerPoint 2010 with videos should "Optimise Media" prior to submitting their presentation. There is no oral presentation slide template. A centralised audio visual system will be used for all Congress presentations. You will not be able to connect your own computer or laptop in your session, nor will you be able to use any storage media (USB, CD, DVD) in your session.


PRESENTER BIOGRAPHY

Oral presenters are asked to print out and bring a short 75 word biography on yourself to provide to the Session Chairperson.  You should give this to the Chairperson when you meet them 15 minutes prior to your session. 

 
PRE-SESSION BRIEFING


All presenters within every session are required to report to their Session Chairperson (named above) in the room allocated to the session (see above) 15 minutes prior to the scheduled session commencement time.

 
AUDIO VISUAL SUPPORT AT THE CONGRESS

When you arrive at the congress, you can view and check the presentation you uploaded in advance at the Speakers Preparation Centres (there will be 2) or at one of the IGC Audio Visual Kiosks located in foyers thought the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
 
 

 

POSTER PRESENTATIONS SPECIFICATIONS

Posters are to be made in A0 size and in portrait orientation (84.1cm width x 118.9cm height). The poster template is available for download here.  The template is not compulsory.
 
Please ensure your poster is in position by 9am on the date specified in the Presentation Confirmation email and removed after your Poster Session.

Poster boards will be in position from 3.00 pm Sunday 5 August. Please note, posters not removed by 5.00 pm on Friday 10 August will be disposed of.

Please bring your poster with you to the Congress. Do not send your poster presentation via email or post to the Congress Organisers in advance of the Congress.

A service desk providing Velcro and assistance is located in the GeoExpo and will be open from 3.00pm on Sunday 5 August and from 8.00am each morning (Monday 6 August to Thursday 9 August).

 

POSTER PRINTING

For those who would like to have their posters printed close to the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and pick them up prior to the Congress, please contact Snap Printing .

You will need to send an email with a PDF document of your poster in A0 size (A0 dimensions are 84.1cm width x 118.9cm height).  You must also ensure that you allow 3mm extra on all edges for “Bleed and trim marks” on the poster.  If your poster can be printed without any amendments or editing (based on the above requirements), it will cost $88 including GST.  When you send the PDF, please ensure you include this code to get the discounted rate arranged especially for the Congress: #34IGC

Snap Printing is a 30 second walk across the road from the registration desk at the Congress. You can ask the staff at the registration desk for directions if required.

Abstracts of papers are invited for consideration for presentation as Offered Papers at the .  Offered Papers may be presented at the as oral or poster presentations.  Abstracts are limited to 250 words. Tables, figures, references and other graphics cannot be accepted in abstracts. Abstracts must be submitted by the presenting author (oral and poster). All abstracts will be reviewed by the appropriate Theme or Symposium/Session convenors.

 30 April 2012     Presenting authors of abstracts (oral and poster) accepted for presentation at the must register for the congress and pay their registration fees by this date.  Presenting authors not registered and paid by this date will have their papers removed from the program and proceedings publication
   

Abstract Submission Fee

A fee of $40 (Australian Dollars) applies to lodge an abstract. Payment must be made by credit card (American Express, MasterCard, Visa, Diners Club) when you lodge your abstract/s.  Please have your credit card ready before proceeding to the abstract submission process.There will be no exceptions.



Summary of abstract submission instructions

During the Abstract Submission process, authors should select the theme and symposium they wish to present in (oral and poster) from the drop down menu. If they are uncertain where their paper best fits, they should use the “Reviewers Choice” category at the very bottom of the drop-down menu for each theme.
 
Authors are permitted to submit only one presenting author abstract for oral presentation, but may also submit abstracts for poster papers and be non-presenting co-authors on other oral presentations. Keynote speakers and invited presenters may submit an additional abstract for oral presentation.

Abstracts must be prepared and submitted in the prescribed format and are limited to 250 words. Please carefully read through the submission instructions below for preparing and submitting your abstract:

STEP 1. Download the Abstract Guidelines which describes how to prepare your abstract and the Abstract Template. Save your abstract as a MS Word .doc document to your computer.

STEP 2. Prepare your abstract exactly following instructions given in the Guidelines and Abstract Template. Abstracts must not exceed the 250 word limit.

STEP 3. Log onto the Abstract Submission website and enter the details of the presenting author and nominate the number of abstracts to be submitted. ABSTRACT(S) MUST BE SUBMITTED BY THE PRESENTING AUTHOR. You will be required to pay a non-refundable A$40 author abstract fee by credit card.

STEP 4. Enter the title of your abstract and nominate your preference for oral or poster presentation.
 
STEP 5. Carefully read and accept the terms and conditions of abstract submission.
 
STEP 6. Print a copy of the abstract submission form for your records prior to clicking ‘upload’. Select a theme and symposium to submit your abstract. Attach/Upload your Abstract.
